UN Report on Tackling Violence in Schools
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Violence against Children has, in March 2012, launched a Report on “Tackling Violence in Schools: A Global Perspective, Bridging the gap between standards and practice”
The Report addresses numerous types of violence that are present in schools such as bullying, sexual and gender-based violence, physical and psychological punishment. Defence for Children International – Mauritius was present in Geneva during the launch of this Report.
The Report is an important tool to NGO’s working for the protection of Children and Halley Movement has already requested a meeting with relevant stakeholders to address this issue in Mauritius. The recent report of the Ombudsperson for children in Mauritius has addressed those issues in its Annual Report.
