National Symposium
In view of the new agenda based on the 17 Goals Halley Movement & PAN-Mauritius organised a National Symposium on Sustainable Development Goals – Empowering Mauritius towards the 2030 Agenda on 21st September 2015.
The National event scheduled at Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebene Cybercity. The event started at 1400 hrs.

Recommendations Following the Sessions
As the year 2015 is an important year, it is imperative to focus on the objectives for Sustainable Development.
Climate changes, human conflicts, carbon emission, water shortage, were among the issues raised.
National Symposium Announcement
In the context of Action 2015, Halley Movement has embarked on several community based activities and it will end by a National Symposium on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on 21st September, 2015.
Halley Movement is inviting interested institutions to join Halley Movement us in this journey.

National Youth Rally
Action/2015 Mauritius is launching a National Youth Rally on 1st of August as a prelude to sensitise young people for the upcoming SDGs and to celebrate International Youth Day.
Ten selected areas will be visited by young people and three venues have been identified for official ceremonies grouping youths and involving State Ministers and Public figures.
The rally will comprise young people who will travel to various regions of the country in order to discuss youth oriented topics. The topics that will be discussed are as follows:
- Youth Decision Making,
- Youth Finance, and
- Climate Change.

Youth Rally leading to International Youth Day Celebrations
Halley Movement, in the context of action/2015 Mauritius will be organising a rally comprising of youth on Saturday 1st August 2015 in order to mobilise and sensitise young people towards the celebrations of International Youth Day in Mauritius.
The rally will comprise young people who will travel to various regions of the country in order to discuss youth oriented topics. The topics that will be discussed are as follows:
- Youth Decision Making,
- Youth Finance, and
- Climate Change.
International Youth Day will be celebrated in the context of Action/2015 Mauritius on Sunday 16th August 2015.The Day will be devoted to a Youth Advocacy Forum with thousands of young people from all corners of Mauritius.
The future of your country is in your hands. The best will be to grab the opportunity and be aware of what is happening around you.

Community Outreach Seminar
Halley Movement is organising a Community Outreach Seminar on the theme “Emerging Social Issues” on Saturday 11 July 2015 for district & village councillors and community leaders.
Rationale of the Seminar
The objective of the Seminar is to promote a peaceful and inclusive society. The emerging issues that will be dealt comprise:
1. Human Rights & Internet Safety
2. Financing Youth activities & Youth Empowerment, and
3. Climate Change and Environmental issues.

Capacity Building Forum – Gender and ICT
A Capacity Building Forum for Women & Girls on the theme: Gender & ICT grouped around 80 participants at Ferney Community Centre, Mauritius.
Event date: July 07-08, 2015
Rationale of the Forum
Halley Movement wished to apply the tremendous transformative capacity of ICTs to strengthen women’s movements and women’s rights agendas. We aimed to build capacity within women’s movements in the creative and strategic use of ICTs so that they can shape technology. This in turn gives these women the chance to explore the convergence between ICT issues and women’s rights agendas. Through tools and resources that have been developed by Halley Movement & PAN-Mauritius Coalition, the Forum aimed at fostering a gender analysis of ICT projects.

Training on Gender and ICT

Halley Movement is organising a one day training on Gender and ICT for girls and women coming from more than 5 regions in Mauritius. The purpose of the training is to focus on the impact of Internet on women and girls, ways in which the internet is enabling, threatening and altering the exercise of certain rights of women and girls in Mauritius.
The training will be attended by Members of Parliament. More information to be announced soon.

Global Day of Citizen Action – Mauritius
Global Day of Citizen Action 2015 Mauritius
Saturday 16 May 2015
In the context of the celebrations in favour of the Global Day of Citizen Action – 2015, Halley Movement organized a workshop at the seat of Halley Movement on Saturday 16th May 2015.
Halley Movement, a United Nations ECOSOC registered organisation, partnered with CIVICUS (www.civicus.org) to launch a Global Day of Citizen Action 2015 (GDCA) Workshop in Mauritius.
The workshop grouped NGO representatives from Halley Movement’s partner organisations and the launch Ceremony was done by H.E. Dr N Nokwe, High Commissioner of South Africa. H.E. Dr. N. Nokwe who spoke about the importance of citizen actions in the World and in particular in Mauritius which is to get people think about civic space, understand their rights, increase awareness about the importance of civic space and our needs to mobilise and engage.
Her launch address was preceded by a video projection showing civic space and action in the world.
During his welcome address the Secretary-General of Halley Movement pointed out that The Global Day of Citizen Action is a global event which took place on Saturday, 16th May where ordinary citizens told whether they feel free to speak out, organise and take action. By participating to the Day, everybody is helping to understand what’s happening in our country and this will help create awareness about the importance of `civic space’. He also added that civic space exists when individuals and organisations have the freedom to speak out, organise and take action. In other words, to freely express, associate and assemble like we are doing today.
Two breakout group sessions were organised after the launching ceremony and was composed of:
1. Breakout Group 1: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
2. Breakout Group 2: focussed on two aspects of Child Welfare:
a) Indiscipline and violence at schools, and
b) Child Safety on Internet.
Global Day of Citizen Action
Halley Movement is hosting a workshop to mark the Global Day of Citizen Action (GDCA) on Saturday 16th May 2015 from 0930 to 1200 hrs. The event will gather partners and resource persons involved in the various community based programmes of our organisation. The main objectives of the Workshop will be:
i) To examine the draft report of the Experts Meeting on Redefining Child Welfare—The Future Beyond 2015.
ii) To look at the Way Forward for action/2015 Mauritius and
iii) To consolidate our networking process.
