The Halley Movement successfully organised the 10th edition of the Mauritius Internet Governance Forum (MIGF) 2026 and the 3rd edition of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Internet Governance Forum, held on July 31 and August 1, 2026, in Mauritius.
These two major events took place in a hybrid format—combining in-person and online participation—enabling local, regional, and international engagement.
They event brought together government representatives, policymakers, private sector stakeholders, technical experts, academics, and representatives of youth and civil society from Mauritius and various other countries to discuss current digital issues and strengthen regional and international cooperation.
The 10th edition of the Mauritius Internet Governance Forum (MIGF) 2026 was officially launched by His Excellency Jean Yvan Robert Hungley, G.O.S.K., Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, during the opening ceremony, attended by the Honourable Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation and the United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Multi-Country Office for Mauritius and Seychelles.
The Mauritius IGF 2026 was held under the theme: “The Future of Artificial Intelligence to Mobilise Political Commitment in Addressing the Challenges Facing Mauritius and Africa,” highlighting the strategic importance of artificial intelligence in socio-economic development, digital governance, and regional cooperation.
The Mauritius Internet Governance Forum (MIGF) has been a collaborative event that fostered policy dialogue among state and non-state actors, as well as among all stakeholders, regarding issues related to Internet governance.
Halley Movement was the lead organisation responsible for the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Mauritius and played a pivotal role in promoting an inclusive, open, and multi-stakeholder model of digital governance.
Since its inception, the MIGF has served as a key national platform enabling government representatives, the private sector, technical communities, academia, youth, and civil society to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities associated with the evolution of the digital ecosystem.
The 10th edition of the MIGF in 2026 marked a significant milestone in this evolution and reaffirmed Mauritius’s role in regional and international discussions on digital governance—particularly regarding artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital trust, online protection, and digital inclusion.
Artificial intelligence at the heart of the discussions.
The discussions examined the strategic role of artificial intelligence in economic and social development, while emphasising the importance of a responsible, ethical, and inclusive approach to the governance of emerging technologies. Participants also explored ways to strengthen regional and international cooperation to ensure that technological advances benefit all communities, particularly in small island states facing specific challenges.
